These deposits have been interpreted as generated in an homoclinal ramp, and data provided by palinological analysis yield and age of middle to upper Anisian. Tidal depositional environment is recognized in all the lower Musehelkalk, and it ranges from subtidal to supratidal. Four karstified surfaces have been found within the deepening sequence in the Montseny-Llobregat arca. Primary dolomite occurs in the shallowing upward sequence and it has a great lateral extension. (deepening) sequence enhanced by the existing regional discontinuity. Secondary dolomitization took place in the upper part of the lower. However shallowing upwards sequences occur throughout all the carbonate section studied. A regional discontinuity exists between these two main cycles. This is an accessible introduction to quantitative modelling of basins for graduate students, researchers and oil industry professionals. The sedimentary evolution of the lower Muschelkalk (facies) in the Catalan Coastal range is characterized by the existence of two cycles: deepening and shallowing upwards. Separate notes sections supply more technical details, and the text is illustrated throughout with real-world examples, applications and test exercises. Main equations are derived from first principles, and their basic solutions are obtained and then applied. The volume introduces basic, state-of-the-art models and demonstrates how to reproduce results using tools like MATLAB® and Octave. Chapters on heat flow, subsidence, rheology, flexure and gravity consider sedimentary basins in the context of the Earth's lithosphere, and the book concludes with coverage of pore space cementation, compaction and fluid flow. It begins with a thorough grounding in properties of porous media, linear elasticity, continuum mechanics and rock compressibility. Presenting a rigorous treatment of the physical and mechanical basis for the modelling of sedimentary basins, this book supplies geoscientists with practical tools for creating their own models. ![]()
